Craig L. Symonds
Craig Symonds attended Anaheim High School, then UCLA, earning his BA in 1967. He obtained his MA in history at the University of Florida in 1969.
Symonds joined the USNR, serving for three years until 1974.
While in the Navy, he served on the staff and faculty of the Naval War College. After his release from active duty, he returned to graduate studies in history at the University of Florida, where he obtained his Ph. D.
In 1976, the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, appointed Symonds as assistant professor of history as a specialist in Naval history.
In 1985, he was named professor of history. He served as chairman of the history department from 1988 to 1992 and was appointed professor emeritus upon his retirement in 2005.
